Educational constellations: The school as a dynamic field

Masterclass - The school as a dynamic field - Educational constellations

What you cannot see, but can feel

This event invites you to experience your school from a deeper awareness. As an education professional, you often sense what isn't right in your school without knowing exactly where it comes from. You notice invisible tensions, feel disturbances in the system and see how these patterns find their way into the relationships between colleagues, pupils and leadership. These invisible, yet tangible, dynamics make school both fascinating and challenging.

‘A school is more than a group of people with a mission.

It is a living system in which every voice,

including that of the past, plays its part.’

The hidden influences in the school system

Do you recognise these situations? You sense that a dynamic in your school isn't right, but you don't know how to change it. You wonder what conflicts are saying about the system and what signals pupils are giving the team. You find that leading can be quite a challenge. You notice that you don't always take up your rightful place at school. These signals point to deeper systemic patterns that are asking for attention. When you learn to recognise and acknowledge these patterns, space for transformation and growth opens up within your school environment.

Educational constellations shed light on the patterns.

‘When a head stands in his or her place,

the whole system comes to rest.’

The wafer-thin line between school and home

You, like every other individual in a school, adults and children alike, shape school from the context of your personal system. Everyone responds from their own history and beliefs. Emotional baggage is unpacked and piled together. That makes school both fascinating and challenging. It isn't easy to stay standing in the midst of it all, but it is certainly not impossible! You can even shine and flourish there.

Educational constellations neutralise the emotional tangle.

every time he has to study for his tests

He chooses to do a constellation

His fears have greatly diminished and his results were satisfactory

🧭 Who is it for?

For everyone who is professionally involved in education:

  • Heads and leadership teams, policy support staff, (pupil care) coordinators and teachers, student teachers.
  • In-school support coordinators, pupil counsellors, educational advisers.
  • Policymakers, school boards and trainers in education.
  • Support workers, therapists and coaches with an affinity for education.

For all professionals who feel that...

  • There is ‘something’ not right in the school, the team or classroom practice.
  • Change does not happen by itself, despite good intentions.
  • There is more potential, but they don't know where to begin.
  • Their place is one they want to take up in a more conscious and well-supported way.
  • They are ready to break old patterns and truly move forward.
  • They are curious about how systemic work and conscious presence can contribute to more leadership, impact, growth, balance and fulfilment.
  • They want to connect their intuition with concrete action and strategic choices.
  • They want to lift their teams to a higher level through connection and awareness.
  • They are looking for a new method to tackle complex challenges.
  • They are looking for more authenticity and effectiveness in their professional lives.
  • They dare to look in the mirror.

and

  • Parents, pupils, students.

Educational constellations connect people and foster engagement.

💪 Strong as an individual, strong as a team

There is a great need to stand strong together as a team. You can only do that if you stand strong as an individual. Feeling safe in a group only works when you feel safe within yourself; respecting boundaries only works when you know your own. Solving problems only becomes possible when you shift your focus to opportunities for growth. The emotions in that baggage only come to rest when you dare to look at them. Sharing goes well when you keep your attention with yourself. Looking at pupils without judgement only becomes possible when you accept yourself for who you are.

Educational constellations offer great support in this.

‘What a pupil shows

often says something about what lives invisibly in the team.’

From problems to opportunities for growth

Transformation begins with awareness. During this constellation day, you set out on a journey of discovery to the core of your heart for education. Through the method we call educational constellations, you explore the hidden patterns that disrupt the way a school functions. By looking them in the eye, you create space for balance, authenticity and lasting growth. Educational constellations set complicated problems in schools in motion in a simple way. Through systemic self-reflection, your school and everyone in it can take big steps forward. Every level, from leadership to pupils, experiences the results.

Educational constellations create perspective and save a great deal of time.

She does a constellation about it

She now sees the pupil and herself through different eyes

The relationship has improved considerably

How it works: not a spectator, but a participant

Educational constellations work in the same way as family constellations, but with attention to the context of a school organisation.

  • You need no prior knowledge.
  • You work on a question of your own or as a representative for others.
  • You learn through experience and perception.
  • Systemic knowledge is made tangible in the field.

A constellation begins with a question. Representatives take up different positions. They show where a situation is stuck. Through highly sensitive perception, combined with a strong grounded presence, we can explore these dynamics successfully. As the constellation unfolds further, something new emerges that allows the situation in your school to start moving again.

Educational constellations are not role play. They activate your knowledge while you stand in the field.

She wants the right person in the right place

She decides to set up the candidates in a constellation

Her team is driven, enthusiastic and capable

🔍 Why are educational constellations so special?

  • Holistic approach: not just ‘What is going wrong?’, but ‘What wants to emerge?’
  • Depth and lightness: lovingly confronting, from the wisdom of the system.
  • Highly sensitive attunement and grounded presence.
  • A pioneering path towards a more connected, conscious and meaningful education system.
  • The strength of this approach: precise attunement to the situation and just the right dose at exactly the right moment.
  • The movement is not long in coming.

👩‍🏫 Who facilitates this?

With decades of experience in education, systemic work and energetic awareness, training courses, workshops and growth programmes, I (Hilde Van Bulck) guide school leaders and their teams through processes of growth. Experiencing an educational constellation for yourself

is the only way to truly know

the power of a constellation

📚How education professionals experience educational constellations

  • ‘This school constellation showed me clearly and undeniably what is going on in our school. Issues I suspected and issues I had never suspected revealed their importance in the constellation with complete clarity. The exploration has been set in motion, and I'm curious to see what follows.’ (head of a secondary school - Deurne)
  • ‘By being a representative in educational constellations, I gained insight into a pattern that I myself bring to school.  The information that becomes visible in a constellation cannot be found in any textbook! I can't explain it, but I can feel it.  In constellations I realise time and again that you are a small part of a system and that everyone has their place in it. It helps me to be more tolerant. Hilde facilitates the constellations with such great expertise that I sometimes don't notice she is there, while she is very much present and watching over the process.’ (adult education teacher - Anderlecht)
  • ‘I recently took part in a day of educational constellations. Almost all the participants had a question.  Time and again, it turned out to be about complex situations with many underlying emotions and past events that were still having an effect in the school. By acknowledging these and giving them their rightful -dignified- place, space and positive energy are released to work together in connection. It is an intense experience to be part of this, to see it and feel it happen. Highly recommended for every school! This should be a compulsory part of the professional development programme.’ (head of a free primary school - Gijzegem)
  • ‘This is my second year as head of Don Bosco De Puzzel (my fifth year as a head). Every school has its own dynamics, history and culture. Hilde has helped me enormously to gain a clear view of what is going on within a team and an organisation. Thanks to her strong insights, focused conversations and constellations, underlying patterns become visible and both the past and the present are given their rightful place.

What I find particularly valuable is how Hilde has helped me to stand more firmly in my role as head. Her professional approach, warm guidance and concrete tips really set things in motion. I am very grateful for her knowledge, her commitment and the impact she has had on my growth as a leader and on the way the school runs.’ (Sofie Leroy - head of Don Bosco De Puzzel - Haacht)

  • The educational constellations gave me fascinating insights into the dynamics within teams. Although the questions were asked in the context of an educational setting, the insights are so universal that I can take them with me to my own work too. (Liesbeth - Engineer)

  • I am very impressed by the power of the ‘systemic education cards’. They played an essential role in the constellations in which they were used. Very beautiful. Illuminating to see and experience how often we bring our family to work with us, in this case in this masterclass on the school. (Martine - Lab technician)

  • Deeply grateful that I was able to experience and witness this. I am heading home with beautiful insights and tools. (Caroline - learning support specialist - Vokan vzw)

  • Thank you for this day full of inspiration, insights, lovely people, a smile and a tear, and care. I am going home with a different view of the child. Thank you for that. (Hilde - learning support specialist - Vokan vzw)
